On the 14th November 2024, the FSA lifted the advice to consumers on avoiding anything containing, or that may contain, mustard. This advice was issues due to potential contamination of products with peanuts, however all affected products have now been recalled.
The FSA has recommended that businesses continue to avoid products listed in the allergy alerts section on the FSA website as well as recheck stock for any affected products listed. Additionally, because some mustard-based products will now be provided with precautionary allergy labelling (e.g. made in a factory that produces or may contain), product information should be checked incase the labelling on previously bought products has now changed.
Next Steps for Businesses:
- Check for any communications and updates from suppliers and company head office.
- Inform all team members, particularly those that deal with goods-in, of the requirement to check products thoroughly.
- Check if existing and new products have been purchased from suppliers listed in the alerts section of the FSA.
- Cross check product labelling on current stock and particularly on the arrival of new stock against any pre-populated recipes / allergen matrices, paying specific attention to precautionary labelling.
- Update any recipes / allergen matrices and discard older versions.
- Inform all BOH team members, particularly those that deal with goods-in, of the requirement to check products thoroughly.
- Inform the team that checks have been carried out and if any updates have been made. This is to ensure customers are provided the correct information in the event they ask about allergies.
